Blah

Well, since I am home sick today, I can blog. I had a fever and chills the whole entire night and it just sucked. After everyone left this morning, I hauled my weak self to the doctor. Seems I have a sinus infection and an ear infection in both ears. I was very surprised that I did not have strep throat because my throat feels like it's on fire. Hopefully the antibiotic will clear it up soon and I will be back to my old happy self.

On the family front, we had a great long weekend and got a lot done. I think it's funny how Labor Day Weekend we spend the whole time laboring. Ha! We kept the television on Fox News most of the weekend watching all the Hurricane Gustav coverage. I think the government did a great job of getting people transportation out of there and finding them housing this time. Of course, now some are saying they over reacted and all of that was not needed, but if they had not done it then people would be saying they didn't do enough (like Katrina). I guess you can never win.

I guess I am going to go lay down since I am feeling a little weak and dizzy. Hopefully I will get over this stuff soon.

Here's a funny for ya

Right after I posted that lovely blog below, I go outside to get in my car and go pick up my daughter at her friend's house and I find this (see above).

GRRRRRRRR!!!!!

Again.

Btw. It took us all day to clean it up.

Revenge!

Wow

I am getting lazy again with my posts. It's just been super busy everywhere. Work, school, home. My Fridays off are not really Fridays off. Someone at work this week asked me since school started back if I would go back to full-time. Ha! Right! I hope I do not have to, but if forced I guess I would have no choice. This Friday I spent dealing with my younger son's car break-in incident. His car which was parked in the parking garage at college was broken into last week. The morons broke out his window and took his crappy stereo. Not only did they break the window out, they used screwdrivers to pry the thing out of the center console and tore it up pretty good. This may total his car because his car really isn't worth much so we will have to see what happens with this. It's always something. On my day off he drove his car here (about an hour) we took it to get estimates, parked it in the driveway, taped up the windows, and then I drove him back to school (he left it here so we could deal with it) and then I had to drive back home and run my daughter and her friends to their destination. I am pretty wiped out. Hubby would have been happy to help but he is working 15 hours a day 7 days a week, so it's pretty much just me. So much for days off. Here are just a few pictures from our trip. Ugh! Oh well, at least I had fun with my new camera.

Band Babies

Here they are! The trumpet section looking all sharp. You can see my little blondie on the back row, 4th from the left standing by her favorite trumpet guy (he is on the right of her - the curly haired one).

And here she is...the prettiest girl trumpet player ever!!!

Some sort of good news

After his visit to the doctor, my son came home with the news that the doctor thinks he has a sliding hernia. She has referred him to a surgeon who he will see on Monday. We will know more after that. If it is something as simple as that (evidently pretty common in very active men, especially hockey players - which he is), I will be very thankful. In the exact words of my son, "I just want the junk to be right." Got to love a kid that uses that kind of lingo. Will post updates as we get them. Evidently he doesn't want me or hubby to go with him, but it is perfectly fine for his girlfriend to go. Jeez. When he does have surgery, you better believe his mom will be there whether he likes it or not. I am really getting a little tired of the "I am a man" speeches. Looks like he might be out of work for awhile since while he goes to school he is working for a moving company. Hernia much?

Must be back to school time.

How can I tell?

This was our yard yesterday morning. One last hurrah I guess. Silly kids.

Today was my daughter's first day of high school. She started school at a VERY large high school. And when I say large, I mean crazy large. I think I was more nervous than she was. I thought about her all day while I listened to my co-worker crying off and on throughout the day. Seems the jerk she married two weeks ago is already filing for a divorce. I would like to say I was surprised, but all of us saw it coming and can't believe she didn't. The worst part is that she is a single mother and she already turned in her notice and now wants to change her mind. Not sure how this will play out since after she called in that her child was sick and then ran off to marry this jerk (while her child was sick...umm...right) and then proceed to not come to work and do several other stupid things (because I guess she thought she had nothing to lose since she was going to quit work)...I think people were getting tired of it all and was glad that she was leaving. She is a sweet person, but not sure about her reliability or her sanity sometimes. It did take my mind off worrying about my daughter. I am such a terrific co-worker that when I went to Target at lunch I bought her some lovely tissue in a very decorative box for her desk.

After work I went over to the school to pick Tallulah up and the traffic was horrible! I was trying to get over to the side of the school where she was and totally got land locked by kids trying to get out so I sort of just gave up. Actually I was pretty scared one of them would hit my BMW so I just sort of sat there and tried to wait it out. Next thing I know daughter is calling me and telling me to stay where I am and she will walk the loooong walk to where I am. As she walked across the parking lot boys kept yelling, "whoohooo!" and "hey cutie!" Something tells me she is going to like high school just fine. Ha! She had boys offering her jackets (because it was cold in class) and boys letting her borrow pencils (she only took a pen) and boys letting her borrow money (because evidently, her lunch was $8.20 - WHAT?) Shame on me for thinking she could eat a school lunch for under 5 bucks! Wow!

Tomorrow it's band pictures at the stadium and I have a strong feeling we will get rained out once again. Saturday I will spend my entire day at the stadium cleaning the concession stand. I am so looking forward to that! Not!

Well....I gotta go grab Tallulah and head to the store. I think we will skip the $8.00 lunch tomorrow and just let her take her own lunch.

Adios!

Running with Scissors

WOW. Have you ever tried to watch the movie Running With Scissors? WEIRD.

Last night daughter and I watched The Last of the Mohicans for the first time. After traveling all over the place looking for the DVD we finally found it on the complete opposite side of town. She is taking Honors English this semester, her first semester in high school and she has two projects due on the book the first day of school. I am not sure why they do this to kids (make them do projects over the summer) but she will spend the next few days working on them and you know she is so happy about that. Evidently watching the movie was a total waste of time since the movie is NOTHING like the book. I was scared that since the book was such a hard read, she did not remember anything about it, but the whole movie she kept saying, "Uhh...this was not in the book." That's a pretty good sign.

Friday and Saturday we spent school shopping for clothes. It is tax free weekend this weekend and the malls and stores like Target were absolutely packed. I spent WAY too much money on her. She has decided that she wants to go "Boho" and be a little Sienna Miller. This involves lots of Free People clothing. Ever priced that stuff? Wow. I didn't think hippies had that much money. If you have any idea where I can get any Free People stuff at a discount price, let me know. We were fortunate to find a good bit of it on sale at our local Belk's here and got some really cute stuff. I did really great at American Eagle since I have their access card and had enough points to get 30% off there along with the tax free savings (8%)! Go me! After saving a good bit of money there she talked me into a $98.00 pair of jeans. Can you say SUCKER? Evidently they are amazing! They better be!

On a more serious note, don't you just love it when life gives you a big ole slap in the face? On Thursday my oldest son discovered a mass on a private area of his body. I made him an doctor's appointment for this Tuesday morning, but needless to say I am scared to death (he is too). I have been googling it (doctors hate this), and have been reading some really scary stuff with words like Testicular Cancer. I really pray this is not the case, but I am preparing myself since he is in the targeted age range and I am the type of person that automatically goes for the worst case scenario. I am just thankful that he listened to me when he got out of the Navy and got himself some good health insurance. He use to never listen to me when he was younger, but now....I think I am starting to make sense to him. Thank Goodness!!!! If you are reading this, please pray for him and that the outcome will be nothing serious. I am praying in a major way! Hopefully after this exam I will have something positive to post, but I am sure our doctor will refer him to a urologist to be sure. At this point I am willing to do whatever it takes to make sure he is okay. Even if he is 23, he is still my baby.

Oh well...I have LOTS of laundry to do.

*sigh*

I love, love, love Fridays! Woot!

Here she is!

A couple of the newest members of the high school band! Unfortunately, I accidently deleted most all of the other cute pictures of Tallulah with her friends with that new phone I was bragging about yesterday. Ugh! Lucky for me other parents had their REAL CAMERAS that they know how to operate and don't keep deleting all of those wonderful moments I missed today. I had several promises of emails of the cute new band members so hopefully I will get them soon. As for now, this is the only one I have. The guy that is in the picture with her is pretty amazing, super smart and one of her best guy friends. He is actually one of the best kids I know. But looking at this picture makes me realize I can't believe we are at this point in our lives. The last one in high school. Wow.

On the work front, we had some fun/drama today. My co-worker decided to run off and get married out of the blue yesterday and came into work today. And here we thought she was taking care of her sick daughter. Hmmmmm. Everyone was very happy for her because she is a single mom and has found someone with a great job and some financial security....at least for now. Ha!

And that's all I am going to say about that.

Oh yeah!

I almost forgot. Don't know how I could, but I got one of these on Saturday:

It's pretty freaking sweet too. It's an LG Dare. After carrying the same phone for two long years and since it broke recently, for my birthday I splurged. I splurged on my son and my daughter too and got them one also. My hubby took my daughter's Env which he has always loved. Everyone is happy. This thing has a 3.2 megapixel camera which is pretty awesome. I used it at a horse show that we went to on Saturday night and took some pics with it as you see here:

This was taken from quite a distance and yes, I know it doesn't look super professional but that's pretty darn good for a cell phone camera, at night....a very dusty night. I filmed a video with it too but I am too tired to go look for it. Ha! Anyways, one of the features I really love is the keyboard and how you can flip it and it knows to turn into a qwerty keyboard. I love a qwerty keyboard on a phone. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE! It has a lot of features I have had no time to play with but eventually I will get it figured out. On a scale of 1-10 I give this phone a 20. Check them out if you get a chance.

Now back to your regularly scheduled programming.

One Hundred

Degrees that is. It reached 100 degrees today and it has been miserable. I really feel for people that work outside in this stuff. My daughter has been in band camp since last week but this has been the hottest day so far. During my lunch hour I drove over to pick her up and she was uncharacteristically quiet. I was hoping that was not due to the heat because I hated to go back to work and worry about her passing out or something horrible like that. Actually the whole thing had to do with her boyfriend. Speaking of which....why do 15 year old girls think they HAVE to have a boyfriend? Why can't they just hang out with friends and have fun? Currently she has had the same boyfriend for about 7 months. Before that she dated this guy for 9 months. When will she understand that just hanging out and having fun with guys AND girls is fun enough. I like the current guy good enough much better than the one before. This one is at least not super over protective. Now that she has moved up to high school, I am hoping she will see that there is a whole lot of other things out there and she will just be a fun loving girl for a while. With no boy. At least not a boyfriend. Anyways, here is my pic of the day.

Enjoy!

My desk where I do my work! Whooohoo!

Hey you all!

I am blogging from the lovely town of Seaside Village, Florida. So far we are halfway into our lovely week long vacation (if you take out the 3 days we were at my mother-in-law's - Ugh! Torture!) It has been beautiful this week. If I had anything to complain about at all it would be the 2 days of jelly fish infestation. Those little suckers look like they would hurt! Kids are catching them in nets and laying them on the shore to look at them, which makes you sure that you keep your flip flops on. Daughter and her friend are having lots of fun but so far have not been able to find any "hot" boys. According to them anyways. One morning hubby and I got up and walked to the beach early and sat out on a pavillion to drink coffee and it was heavenly. The first morning we were here the water was crystal clear. The next two mornings they have been murky and loaded with marine pests. We are making a huge pot of spaghetti and then we will head out to explore the town once again. Every evening people come out and congregate in the village and line up at the various places for ice cream, milkshakes, t-shirts, and all of that sort of stuff. This place is pretty much amazing!

Wow

It has been a long time since I blogged or posted anything. I guess not much is going on or I never have time or something like that. I am still working at the large university, and have recently switched to part-time which is great! Hopefully I will have more time to do this. I started a running program this week to try to get myself in some sort of shape to start running on a more frequent basis. Of course I am starting off slow and am building up, so fingers crossed I stick with it THIS TIME! Ha! I went to the dentist today because I had a tooth that has been hurting for like 3 days. I finally gave in and decided to go because I was really sort of scared it would interfere with our trip to the beach next week. Wouldn't that be just awful? I had to go through all kinds of torture and I am sitting here with my mouth throbbing because somehow some sort of food item became lodged under my only crown that I have over a cracked molar. Ugh! Earlier this month our beach plans were almost interrupted when I got called to jury duty. Not only jury duty, but jury duty for a highly publicized capital murder trial in our area. I tried to get deferred, but the judge would not let me due to the importance of the case so for two days I sat in court listening to everyone else complain about having to be there (which made me feel bad for complaining). On day three I was excused (thankfully!). I don't think they liked the fact that I had already pretty much made up my mind. I remembered a lot of the details of the incident which happed 2 years ago. So, I was out! Anyways, now that I am typing all of this, it really sounds like a lot has been going on.
